Editing House Scenes

The house scenes in the music video are to show the main character's life. The lyrics say, 'Looking glass so shiny and new/ How quickly the glamour fades'. With this, I created a sequence of stills of the character in front of the mirror imitating the passing of time. Her appearance alters from glamourous to a nervous wreck. To put emphasis upon her emotions and feelings, I altered the lighting and colour of the shots in the sequence. Therefore, when played, it changes from light to a far more dull appearance. I added more of a black and white wash over the shots of her as the wreck she is. This emphasises the dullness in her life and how depression plays a large part. It also allows for contrast against both the and scenes (her subconscious or narrator) and the bright, unusual world behind the door.

  1. Great music video. Really liked it. Kept the audience's attention well with the story you used and really enjoyed seeing all the combinations and uses of camera angles that you used. Really good inspiration for what can be achieved in with passion for the subject.

  2. Your video is amazing! It looks a lot like a Florence and the Machine music video and I really liked the choice of song. The story line and the different camera angles was really expert and creative. The editing was done brilliantly and I thought the characters with the chopping shots of Harriet and the band singing was also really effective. The story line flowed really nicely in the short time you had in the music video, and the ending was so good too! When I started watching it, I did not expect that storyline and the attention to detail was inspiring! Well done :)

  3. I liked the whole concept of the video, the music and what went on within the piece itself worked together really well. It really entices you in when you see the girl in the mirror changing outfits, but you do not know what is going to happen next.
The lighting works really well, especially in the forest/wood scenes.
Editing was precise and sharp, i like how the scene changed from inside the house to outside. Attention to detail was excellent.

  5. I thought that the video was phenomenal, it almost looks like a professional production, I especially liked the lighting of the shots of the band playing. I can tell that it took a huge effort and a lot of time

  6. I really like this piece of work you produced. The ideas used in the video are so original and unique that it makes you want to watch it again. It is edited really well and the camera work is also very good. Normally you see people's videos and they don't always seem to fit well with the music used but your's works very well together. Overall I think this is a great piece and it looks so professional x

  7. I thought that the music video was very creative, and well thought through. There was clever shots and camera angles used. At the end, I thought it was very effective and clever with the two worlds come together and fitted well with the piece of music. The lighting of when the girl is singing, looks professional and sets a nice contrast between her singing and her life in the 'creative world, x.

  8. I really enjoyed this music video. I thought the attention to detail with the costumes and props such as the poster of 'Midas' was great too. Also, it looks like you got the best out of the performers and this kept me entertained throughout along with the storyline. My only criticism would be the scene where she is changing costumes, when the lighting and camera tilt seem to vary slightly. But apart from this, I thought it was a brilliant piece, well done.

  9. Just watched your music video and thought it was amazing. I liked the fact that you channelled elements from the actual Florence and the Machine video. I thought everything about it was great so its hard to point out what stood out about it. In particular though, i liked the contrast between the main character's mundane home life and the Alice in Wonderland-style world that she enters. It could have easily been the official music video because it was so well thought out, in particular the costume and acting, both of which were clearly meticulously thought through.
I can't find fault with it, so well done, it looks incredible.

  10. I thought that it was excellent, i loved it. i thought that all the scenes and shots were fluent which made me constantly engaged into what was going to happen next and i thought that the composition of each scene was thought out clearly. The music and characters movements suited and the editing was brilliant and really set an atmosphere of her emotions. Great job :)

  11. The creativity and sheer performance from the characters were absolutely perfect, not to mention the numerous excellent camera shots that all in all gave the video a professional and high quality productional feel to it. Both the shots of the band and the initial storyline synchronised in time with the song, which I might say was a perfect choice of music to accompany the idea.
Among the scenes, I particularly liked the shot of the keys dropping to the floor, and the character grabbing them. It was a real original idea which for-shadowered the final shot well.
Very little to criticise about the final finished film. One shot for me that could have been improved is the change of scenery between the house and the forest, as firstly i thought she had fallen through into a make believe land, and it took a while to decipher why her costume had changed.
However, an excellent piece of work that Kerry should be proud of.
    Well done!

  12. I was constantly hooked throughout your music video and really enjoyed it. I think the storyline was perfect for the song and the detail was really effective e.g. the little models turning into real people was really creative. I think the editing was really good and contained lots of effective camera angles as well. The way that it flicked from real life to a fantasy world i thought was done really well and looked very professional. Well done!!!

  13. I thought it was really great, I really liked the glowing figures in the band scenes, and the entire yellow/white coloured mise en scene throughout the dream scenes. I also liked the timings with the music which seemed pretty flawless in both editing and lip sync. I think any criticisms i have are not achievable by an A level student so it was pretty much as good as could be. Only perhaps locations and things, the Midas scenes didn't really look very magical, kinda dreary but you cant really be expected to go to the amazon or anything, and you can't wait for the right weather et cetera, i think if it had looked like your picture at the top of the blog it would've been stunning.

  14. I thought it was really good. The attention to detail was brilliant and i wouldn't say there was much wrong with it. Very well done. The whole thing just seemed to go in exactly the right direction you'd expect from a real music video. Very good.
